Spray tans, fist-pumps, and horror that my young niece might be watching MTV’s Jersey Shore – these are just a few of the things that come to mind when I think about Snooki (real name, Nicole Polizzi). However, the twenty-four-year-old reality star will be gracing supermarket checkout lines everywhere on Friday, March 9 when her Us Magazine cover story (in fitting Jersey Shore dialect) reads, “OMG! I’m Pregnant.”
I have to admit, it’s hard to be too cynical when there is an innocent little nugget baking inside the pouf-haired, pint-size, self-proclaimed guidette. I guess that shock and awe are the best two ways that I know how to describe this bit of celebrity scoop.
I have already admitted that my not-so-secret dirty little secret is watching mindless reality television. While Real Housewives drama tops my list, I may have caught an episode or two of Jersey Shore. Don’t judge too quickly – my days are spent studying marketing trends and grading research papers in between diaper changing intervals. I deserve a little mindless pleasure, okay. (Alright, I’m done justifying.) Although I cringe throughout most of the show’s episodes, I will say that I was actually a bit impressed with Snooki’s recent attention to health and fitness in the last couple of season’s episodes. Of course, this was in between her binge partying and (I can’t even believe I am about to say this) “smoosh room” sessions. (OMG! I am letting on that I watch this show waaaay more than I should.) Albeit, there was a physically healthy transformation over the last year or so as Snooki was seen sneaking in sit-ups and sporting a leaner physique.
Father-to-be, Snooki’s boyfriend, Jionni Lavelle tells Us Weekly, “We’re not going to screw this up.”
I’m rooting for them. However, am I the only one that is having an impossible time visualizing Snooki discussing breastfeeding and baby food?
