Have you thought about starting to run but not sure how to get started?  One of the best things you can do is to find a local running group.  A quick google search pulls up running clubs in a multitude of cities.  You can also check Facebook for a running clubs/groups near you. When I first joined my local running club, I wasn’t sure what to expect.  I was a little nervous because I didn’t think of myself as a “runner”.  I was worried that everybody else would be faster than me and that I wouldn’t fit in.  My fears were quickly erased at my first group run.  There were runners of all abilities and speeds there.  There were even walkers.  Basically, everybody just starts at the same place around the same time and we all went the same course.  It was an awesome experience.  I got to visit with several different people during my run and never felt like I didn’t belong.

With the advance of social media outlets like Facebook, these local running clubs can offer even more than a weekly group run.  In our group page, you can ask any running related question and you will get an answer and typically get it pretty quickly.  Want to find out what type of shoes to buy, what running app is the best, or what gps watch everybody else is using – just ask.  Have a question about training, nutrition or hydration, somebody will have answer.  You can also find a running partner for just about any day you don’t want to run alone.  Local running clubs are also a great place to find out about all the upcoming local races.

Running is a simple exercise that almost anybody can start.  Joining a local running club/group will help you with accountability and motivation and will make your running experience more enjoyable.  So, whether you are a long time runner or a beginner, I challenge you to get out and find a local running group to join.  You won’t regret it.
