Well, I am officially four seasons into the HBO original series True Blood, and I couldn’t be happier! Not since my teenage days of Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place have I spent so much time waiting for a new season of a television show to begin. When first introduced to the True Blood series I must admit, I was quite skeptical. With all of the beloved “tween” vampire movies and series around, I feared this one would be no different; however, to my surprise this is certainly an adult only fantasy world.
For those who are unfamiliar, True Blood takes place in the fictitious small town of Bon Temps (pronounced Bonton), LA. Thanks to the hard work of many scientists, synthetic human blood has been created for vampires to live on, allowing them to sustain life without killing humans. The show takes place in current time; however, in the series vampires walk among the humans much like regular citizens.
While the series is full of interesting characters, the main focus always seems to return to its’ two main characters; Sookie and Bill. It would take ages to go through the ups and downs of the love affair and messy mistakes between Bon Temps’ own waitress/saucy temptress Sookie Stackhouse and the well spoken yet mysterious Bill Compton, but if you have some time to rent (or watch on demand) the first three seasons and play catch up, their relationship alone is worth the time commitment. Add in some well built werewolves, crazy wiccans and shady fairies, and you’ve got yourself a party!
While the description may leave you thinking the series is innocent enough to watch with your children, a word to the wise… PLEASE DO NOT! While True Blood is packed full of amazing acting and creative story lines that always keep you on the edge of your seat and drooling for more, it is also packed with adult language, sexual content, and occasional nudity.
So the next time you have the 9:00 – 10:oo pm slot open on a Sunday evening, put the kids to bed, grab your hubby, and tune in. Trust me, after just one episode you’ll be thirsting for more!
