Well, this is it, friends! This summer, I am taking the plunge. Yep, I’m biting the bullet and buying a bikini. Life is too short and there are too many cute bikinis out there!

In doing some research, I have found that so many companies are creating really beautiful and flattering suits for every body type. Every woman deserves to feel beautiful on the beach or at the pool. Here are some guidelines to keep in mind while finding a great suit for your particular body type:

Hourglass: Hourglass shapes look great in suits that provide supportive underwirings and shapes and patterns that flatter curves. Highlight your narrow waist for a sexy shape. Try these styles, like the ravishing red ruched one-piece from Miraclesuit, or the red Marilyn top and ruched bottom from Venus (my favorite!).

Athletic: Details and ruffles are your best bet in creating curves and breaking up a straight line. Try this ring-top bandeau bikini from Volcom, or a ruffled trim one-piece from jcrew.

Athletic

Pear: Try higher-cut bottoms with your bikini/tankini to lengthen your legs. Here is a cute tankini from Tommy Bahama, or try this one-piece with a deeper v-neck from Anna Cole to show off your sexy cleavage.

Apple: Ruching flattens your belly. Love your legs? Show them off with a higher-cut bottom! Try this tankini from Athleta or this beautiful one-piece with side-slimming details from Catalina.

To disguise a pooch: The best way to disguise a poochy belly is with a sleek one-piece like this one from Spanx or a ruffle waisted bottom that sits higher like with this bikini from American Eagle.

Long torso: If you have a long torso and crave some curve, think prints and sexy cutouts. Check out this amazing before and after shot. This hot one-piece in the after-shot from Rygy Sport creates lots of curves. Also try this bikini from Roxy with side-tie details that add some extra curves.
