Before I started researching for this post, I had no idea there were such complex profiles for skin tones! Your skin tone makes a huge difference in how different colors look on you. For years, people have been telling me that I look great in yellow, now I know why.

Wearing the correct color profile will make your skin glow, your eyes bright, and show the natural highlights in your skin and hair. Who doesn’t want that?!

THE COOL SKIN TONES

Winter:

The winter tone is cool with blue or pink undertones. Asians, Africans and Caucasians with very pale skin and dark hair are the most likely to fall into this category.

What to wear: white, black, gray, navy blue, deep red, bright pink, emerald, royal blue, royal purple, icy pastels.

What to avoid: beige, orange, gold, brown. These colors will make skin tone look faded and ashy.

Summer:

The summer tone is cool with blue or pink undertones as well. People with pale skin, blond or light brown hair and light eyes are most likely to fall into this category.

What to wear: pastels, neutrals, muted colors look best (lavender, rose, mauve, pale yellow, light blue, etc.)

What to avoid: black and orange and vivid and intense colors. These colors could drown out skin tone.

THE WARM SKIN TONES

Autumn:

The autumn skin tone is warm and muted with golden undertones. People with light skin, red or brown hair and brown eyes fall into this category. People with darker/golden blond hair and blue/gray eyes also fall into this category. These people also burn easily in the sun!

What to wear: caramel, beige, burnt orange, gold, dark red, olive, ivory, brown

What to avoid: cool colors, bright colors, black, white. These colors will make skin tone look very faded.

Spring:

The spring skin tone, like autumn, is warm and muted with golden undertones. People in this category have light blond, auburn or strawberry blond hair. They have light blue or green eyes and extremely light skin. Freckles are popular for people with this skin tone.

What to wear: ivory, peach, true red, clear blue, camel, light pink, coral, golden yellow, brown, aqua, bright green.

What to avoid: dark/dull colors, black, white.
