I feel like I’m in good shape, I eat well and stay active. I have the skinny mom mind set for sure, and I’m working towards realistic goals and feel like I’m setting a good example for my children. That’s all we can do right?
Society has thrown images of stick thin models like Kate Moss at us along with airbrushed magazine covers of women with no cellulite (who doesn’t have some cellulite?). If you’re a mom, your body has shifted and morphed so much that you have to pull out old photos to remember what it used to look like. There’s other pressures out there too like the ever so stylish mom at school or your size two girlfriend. Speaking of social pressures, don’t get me started on Facebook and all the posts about working out and body image. If you let it, social media can make you feel really bad about yourself.
Who can keep up with all of the pressures to be skinny? You can’t, so do your own thing and forget about the others. Take a walk, go to a Zumba class or run a marathon — whatever suits you and your lifestyle. I’m really liking how I’m feeling these days (and fitting in my clothes). My skinny mom evolution is definitely a work in progress. Don’t be scared of the name “skinny mom,” embrace it and go forth ladies!
